PORT LOUIS, Oct 4 – Mauritius will hold its general election on November 10, President Prithvirajsing Roopun announced on Friday. The announcement comes as the island nation gears up for a key political event that will shape its parliamentary leadership.
Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, who leads the Militant Socialist Movement (MSM), secured a decisive victory in the 2019 election, winning 38 out of 62 seats. Jugnauth first took office in 2017, succeeding his father, who stepped down after years in power.
In 2023, a British court, the final court of appeal for Mauritius, upheld Jugnauth’s 2019 election win, dismissing an opposition challenge that alleged the victory was marred by bribery and undue influence.
