Kenya, Belgium Strengthen Diplomatic Ties

Nairobi, Kenya – Kenya and Belgium have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and fostering partnerships for sustainable development. This was announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs following the successful conclusion of the 2nd session of the Kenya-Belgium Political Consultations in Brussels on October 1, 2024.

The Kenyan delegation, led by Ambassador Lucy Kiruthu, Deputy Director General for Political and Diplomatic Affairs, met with their Belgian counterparts, headed by Ambassador Jeroen Cooreman, Director General of Bilateral Affairs.

During the consultations, both sides expressed satisfaction with the existing bilateral relationship and identified areas for further cooperation. Key sectors of focus included trade and investments, peace and security, information and communication technology (ICT), and people-to-people exchanges.

The two countries agreed to explore opportunities for enhancing trade and investment flows, promoting regional peace and security, leveraging ICT for development, and facilitating cultural exchanges.

The next round of Kenya-Belgium Political Consultations is scheduled to take place in 2025.
