Abuja, Nigeria – President Bola Tinubu has announced a 30-day National Youth Conference aimed at addressing the challenges faced by young Nigerians. The announcement was made during Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day Anniversary broadcast on Tuesday, where the president highlighted the need to empower the nation’s youth, who make up over 60% of the population.
Tinubu emphasized that the confab would serve as a platform for young people to engage in meaningful dialogue, participate in nation-building, and shape policies directly impacting their lives. He noted that the event will focus on issues like education, employment, innovation, security, and social justice.
The president stated that the modalities for the conference and the selection of delegates would be developed in consultation with youth representatives to ensure that their voices are central to the discussions.
“The future we wish to bequeath to our children must be designed with their input,” Tinubu said, underscoring the government’s commitment to ensuring young people have a hand in shaping the nation’s future.
Tinubu also addressed the ongoing economic and security challenges in the country, reiterating his administration’s efforts to reform Nigeria’s political economy and defense system. He assured Nigerians that the government is committed to winning the fight against bandits and terrorists, allowing displaced farmers to return to their land, thereby boosting food production and reducing rising food prices.
