Malawian President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera held talks with Professor Marko Impagliazzo, President of the Community of Sant’Egidio, at the organization’s headquarters in Rome. The meeting focused on the ongoing efforts of Sant’Egidio in Malawi, particularly the DREAM program, which has had a significant positive impact on the lives of many underprivileged Malawians.

The Community of Sant’Egidio, a lay Catholic organization dedicated to social service, was founded in 1968 by Andrea Riccardi. With operations in 73 countries, the organization is known for its work in supporting vulnerable communities. Its headquarters are located within the Saint Egidio Community in Rome, close to the Vatican.

Chakwera’s visit comes on the heels of Italy’s announcement of increased funding, around K6 trillion, to support development programs in select African countries, including Malawi. This new funding is expected to enhance the impact of initiatives like those run by Sant’Egidio, furthering efforts to improve the quality of life for many across Malawi.
