Akufo-Addo Welcomes New Chinese Ambassador

Accra, Ghana – President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of Ghana received the Letters of Credence from China’s new Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Tong Defa, in a ceremony at Jubilee House, Accra, on August 13, 2024. The event officially recognized Ambassador Defa’s diplomatic position and marked the start of his mission to Ghana.

During the ceremony, President Akufo-Addo congratulated the Ambassador and urged him to focus on strengthening the bilateral relationship between Ghana and China. The President also highlighted his upcoming attendance at the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in Beijing, set for September 2024.

Ambassador Defa expressed gratitude to the President and assured that China is committed to enhancing ties with Ghana on both multilateral and bilateral fronts.

The ceremony was attended by key figures, including Foreign Affairs Minister Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, senior officials from the Presidency, and representatives from both the Ministry and the Chinese Embassy in Accra.
