Lagos Nigeria – Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has urged residents to remain calm and avoid actions that could destabilize the state, as the planned nationwide protests draw closer. In a statement released on Tuesday, the governor acknowledged the economic hardships faced by Lagosians but cautioned against resorting to disruptive demonstrations.
Sanwo-Olu emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing the challenges confronting citizens, citing ongoing efforts in various sectors such as education, healthcare, and economic reforms. He pointed to recent initiatives like the EKOCARES program, designed to cushion the impact of economic policies, as evidence of the administration’s responsiveness.
The governor also expressed concerns about the potential for violence, referencing the destructive aftermath of the 2020 EndSARS protests. He highlighted the extensive damage inflicted on public and private property during that period, emphasizing the setback it caused to the state’s economic and social progress.
To prevent a recurrence of such violence, the state government has designated specific areas for protests, with adequate security measures in place. Sanwo-Olu called on residents to exercise their rights peacefully and responsibly, prioritizing the overall well-being of the state.
While acknowledging the people’s right to express their grievances, the governor stressed the importance of dialogue and constructive engagement in finding lasting solutions to the challenges facing the state. He appealed for unity and cooperation among Lagosians, asserting that the state’s prosperity depends on maintaining peace and stability.
The governor concluded by expressing optimism about the future of Lagos, emphasizing the government’s unwavering dedication to the welfare of its citizens.
