Victoria Island, Lagos, played host to a star-studded affair yesterday as Afrobeat superstar Davido (David Adedeji Adeleke) wed his longtime partner, Chioma Rowland, in a lavish traditional ceremony.
The much-anticipated event, which dominated Nigerian social media and social circles for the past week, saw the couple gifted a brand new N85 million 2024 GN8 MPV SUV courtesy of major automobile company, GAC Motors.
The Habour Point Events Centre buzzed with A-list guests, with dignitaries including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Ademola Adeleke (Osun), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), and Godwin Obaseki (Edo) in attendance. The social and entertainment scene was well represented too, with music legends like King Sunny Ade rubbing shoulders with celebrities like Obi Cubana, Nkechi Blessing, and Paul Okoye of P-Square.
The groom, arriving in style in a luxurious open-roof Mercedes-Benz Maybach, donned a traditional Igbo attire and received cheers from fans who lined Ahmadu Bello Way for a glimpse of the star.
The ceremony wasn’t without its emotional moments. Davido shed tears of joy as Chioma’s father delivered a heartfelt blessing for the couple, acknowledging potential flaws but seeking divine support for their lasting union.
This love story began in 2018 when Davido publicly declared his affection for Chioma, then known as ChefChi, by throwing her a lavish 23rd birthday party and presenting her with a N45 million Porsche car. He further solidified his feelings with the release of his hit song “Assurance.”
Their journey, however, hasn’t been without its tragedies. In 2019, they welcomed a son, Adedeji Ifeanyi Adeleke Jr., who tragically passed away in a pool accident in November 2022. Davido took a year-long hiatus from music and public life to grieve. Thankfully, brighter days arrived in October 2023 with the birth of their twins, bringing renewed joy to the couple.
