Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, joined President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the first-ever Korea-Africa Summit in Seoul, South Korea, held from June 4 to 5, 2024. The Summit, themed “The Future We Make Together: Shared Growth, Sustainability, and Solidarity,” aimed to elevate the partnership between Korea and Africa, focusing on mutual prosperity and collaborative efforts to address global challenges.

Discussions at the Summit centered on leveraging Africa’s abundant natural and human resources alongside Korea’s industrial and technological expertise. The goal is to create a mutually beneficial partnership that fosters growth and development in both regions. The event culminated in the adoption of a joint declaration between Africa and Korea, marking a significant step forward in their bilateral relations.

Ahead of the Summit, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey participated in a meeting of Foreign Ministers, which reviewed a Draft Vision Statement for the Summit. This session set the stage for the high-level discussions that followed.

During the Summit, Hon. Ayorkor Botchwey and Ghana’s Minister for Finance, Hon. Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, held a bilateral meeting with H.E. Cho Tae Yul, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea. The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in key areas such as climate change, defense, infrastructure, and education. This meeting concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on the Renewal of the Korea-Ghana Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) Framework Agreement for 2024-2028.
