Antigua, Guatemala – May 30, 2024 – Ghanaian Foreign Minister Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey participated in the 4th International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS) held in Antigua from May 27th to 30th. The conference, themed “Charting the Course Toward Resilient Prosperity,” brought together the international community to address the challenges and opportunities faced by SIDS.

Minister Botchwey highlighted the shared ancestry of many SIDS with African nations, emphasizing that their success is critical for global prosperity.

“Ghana stands committed to the fight for SIDS,” Minister Botchwey declared. “Not only is it the right thing to do, but as Chair of the Climate Vulnerable Forum, we have a moral duty to act.” She urged countries to support SIDS in overcoming the cascading global crises that have exacerbated their vulnerabilities.

Beyond the conference, Minister Botchwey held bilateral meetings with leaders from Nauru, Maldives, Tuvalu, Mauritius, and Tonga. Discussions focused on Commonwealth issues and the Minister’s vision for the organization.
