The 10th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs) concluded in Lagos after a whirlwind three-day celebration of African film and television. From May 9th to 11th, the industry gathered for a star-studded awards night, preceded by events like the Special Night With Icons and the Young Filmmakers Day.
Hosted by the ever-charming IK Osakioduwa, the awards ceremony was a glittering showcase of African talent. Renowned actors like Joke Silva, Sola Sobowale, and Richard Mofe Damijo graced the event alongside a host of industry heavyweights.
Dr. Busola Tejumola, Executive Head of Content and Channels for West Africa at MultiChoice, emphasized the AMVCAs’ decade-long commitment to celebrating excellence in African cinema. “We’ve witnessed incredible growth in the quality of submissions year after year,” she said, “This year’s milestone edition is a testament to the thriving African film industry.”
The 27 award categories, including audience-voted and jury-selected awards, were judged by a panel led by filmmaker Femi Odugbemi. “Breath of Life” and “Jagun Jagun” emerged as multiple winners, while veteran actors Idowu Philips (Iya Rainbow) and Richard Mofe Damijo (RMD) received Lifetime Achievement Awards. Chimezie Imo was honored with the Trailblazer Award.
Over the past decade, the AMVCAs have become more than just an awards show. They have fostered talent, celebrated artistic diversity, and served as a powerful economic driver for Nigeria. With an investment of N9 billion, the AMVCAs have created over 3,000 jobs directly and indirectly, contributing to an estimated total of 27,000 jobs throughout its history.
The 10th edition was sponsored by Amstel, Pepsi, Promasidor, and Martell. The show’s success also owes a debt of gratitude to numerous additional sponsors.
