Pretoria, South Africa – May 5, 2024 – Ms. Inonge Mwenya, Zambia’s Deputy High Commissioner to South Africa, highlighted the government’s strong commitment to education during a visit by Rhodes Park School students on an educational tour of Pretoria.
Mwenya emphasized the importance of quality education for all children, regardless of background. “The government prioritizes education,” she declared. “This is why we offer free education in public schools, ensuring equal opportunity for all to achieve a quality education.”
She explained that a well-educated population is critical for Zambia’s economic development. The government, she said, is dedicated to implementing strategies that enhance the education sector, ultimately benefiting citizens’ individual, social, and economic well-being.
“By prioritizing education,” Mwenya stated, “pupils in government schools are enjoying free education today.”
Mr. Keegan Kamuchungu, the Head Teacher of Rhodes Park School, expressed his appreciation for the opportunity. “This educational tour aims to broaden the children’s understanding of various issues,” he explained. “They learn about other people’s social and cultural environments.”
Kamuchungu also shared the value of interaction and collaboration fostered by such tours. He expressed gratitude for the support provided by the Zambian mission in Pretoria and the opportunity to interact with various stakeholders.
