Gqeberha, South Africa – ISUZU and Engen successfully completed their latest “1 Tank Challenge,” showcasing the impressive fuel efficiency of the Isuzu MU-X 1.9 TD LS. The family SUV covered a remarkable 1,274 kilometers from Johannesburg to Gqeberha (via East London) on a single tank of Engen Dynamic Diesel with Pro Drive, with an astonishing 405 kilometers remaining in the tank upon arrival.

This challenge wasn’t just about cruising down highways. It involved navigating challenging terrain and strategic planning by participating media representatives. The accomplishment highlights the capabilities of both the Isuzu MU-X and Engen’s fuel technology.

Building on last year’s success, the 2024 “1 Tank Challenge” aimed to demonstrate the cost-effective driving potential of Isuzu vehicles paired with Engen’s fuel. Selected media representatives drove the MU-X on this extended journey to see how far they could travel on a single tank and achieve optimal fuel consumption.

“This year’s challenge promises an even greater display of endurance and efficiency from both the vehicles and the drivers,” said Kevin Fouché, Department Executive at Isuzu Motors South Africa. “We constantly push boundaries to showcase the true capability of Isuzu vehicles.”

The challenge results offer valuable insights for both current and potential Isuzu customers. Pairing an Isuzu vehicle with Engen Dynamic Diesel with Pro Drive can ensure a smooth and fuel-efficient driving experience, maximizing productivity for daily commutes or long journeys.

“Engen Dynamic Diesel with Pro Drive is formulated to meet the specific needs of your engine for peak performance,” explained Adnaan Emeran, Manager of Marketing Business Development at Engen. “Our formula delivers superior fuel economy, a smoother ride, and reduced emissions.”

The Isuzu 1.9 engine is renowned for its exceptional fuel economy, affordability, durability, and reliability. This reputation has solidified its position among commercial fleet operators and individual motorists alike. The MU-X 1.9 TD LS boasts a 1,899 cc four-cylinder intercooled turbodiesel engine, delivering 110 kW of power and 350 Nm of torque, paired with a smooth-shifting six-speed automatic transmission.

Beyond its impressive fuel efficiency, the Isuzu MU-X stands out for its design and safety features. The unique interior and exterior styling offer a blend of comfort and elegance, creating a luxurious and distinctive SUV. The advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) actively monitors the surrounding environment, providing intuitive alerts and passive safety features for an extra layer of protection.

The “1 Tank Challenge” goes beyond just showcasing fuel efficiency. It also emphasizes the importance of proper vehicle preparation and maintenance, especially for extended trips.

“The Isuzu MU-X embodies our slogan, ‘With you in the long run,'” said Fouché. “It empowers drivers with the confidence and freedom to embark on any journey they choose.”

“Vehicle stability is crucial for long distances,” he continued. “The MU-X features structural enhancements and a rigorously tested powertrain, boosting off-road performance across the range. Additionally, it offers 235mm of ground clearance and an impressive 800mm wading depth.”
