The Nigerian government has launched a 15-day emergency fuel supply initiative to address the ongoing nationwide scarcity. This assurance comes amidst frustration from motorists who have faced long queues and limited petrol availability for days.
Engr. Ayo Cardoso, South West Regional Coordinator of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), confirmed the emergency measures in a statement. He emphasized that Nigerians should not panic, as the situation is expected to improve significantly.
“We have received over 300 million litres [of petrol] as of Tuesday,” Cardoso stated. “More have arrived, but I can’t give you the figure. Vessels will keep arriving in Nigeria for 15 days, which started counting on Monday, and we will keep distributing the product nationwide.”
Cardoso further reassured citizens that there is no preferential treatment for any region. “The masses should not panic; all these will soon vanish,” he said. “We are not prioritizing anywhere; each state has its allocation to be delivered accordingly.”
