Lagos, Nigeria – Covenant University has emerged victorious once again, clinching the top spot in Nigeria for the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2024. This marks the second consecutive year the faith-based institution in Ota, Ogun State, has secured the title.
Covenant University also finds itself positioned among the top 1,000 universities globally, landing at the 801st rank. The 2024 ranking encompasses 1,904 universities across 108 countries and regions, evaluated based on a new methodology that considers teaching, research environment, research quality, industry collaboration, and international outlook.
The University of Ibadan, Nigeria’s premier university, follows closely behind Covenant in second place. The Federal University of Technology, Akure, rounds out the top three. Other notable institutions within the top 15 include the University of Ilorin, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Afe Babalola University, and the University of Benin.
The ranking results reveal an interesting geographical distribution of top universities in Nigeria. Nine of the top 15 institutions are located in the South West region, while the South East and South-South regions claim two universities each. The North West and North Central regions each have one representative in the top tier.
