Moscow, Russia – Moviegoers, mark your calendars! The 46th Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF) will return to light up the silver screen from April 19th to 26th, 2024. The Oktyabr Film Center, a longstanding festival hub, will once again welcome filmmakers and cinephiles from around the world.
“We’re thrilled to announce the dates for the next MIFF,” shared the festival organizers. “Movie magic will fill the Oktyabr’s halls from April 19th to 26th, offering a captivating showcase of international cinema.”
Eager filmmakers still have time to polish their reels, as the deadline for submitting entries to the festival’s competitive and non-competitive programs is yet to be revealed. This annual cinematic smorgasbord typically features over 200 films screened across ten Moscow cinemas, captivating audiences with diverse stories and cinematic styles.
Last year’s MIFF attracted a staggering 38,000 viewers, immersing them in films from 64 countries. “Tres hermanos” by Francisco Paparella took home the top prize, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.
The Moscow Film Festival boasts a rich history, stretching back to its inaugural edition in 1935. While initially envisioned as an annual event, it faced brief hiatuses in 1996 and 1998 before resuming its yearly run in 1999. Since 2018, the festival has embraced a springtime slot in mid-April, a change from its previous late-June schedule.
Renowned filmmaker Nikita Mikhalkov, a giant of Russian cinema, continues to preside over the festival, ensuring its commitment to artistic excellence and international exchange.
