Lagos, Nigeria – Nigeria and Uganda have solidified their air transport partnership with the launch of direct flights between Entebbe International Airport in Uganda and Lagos Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Nigeria.

The inaugural flight, operated by Uganda Airlines’ A330-800 aircraft, took off from Entebbe on November 2, 2023, and landed in Lagos under five hours later. The flights are scheduled to operate three times a week, on Mondays, Thursdays, and Sundays.

The launch of the direct flights is a major boost for connectivity between West and East Africa. It will also help to promote trade and investment between the two countries.

The Nigerian government has designated Abuja and Kano as entry points for Uganda Airlines, further enhancing connectivity between the two countries.

The flights are expected to be popular with Nigerian travelers, who have long clamored for cheaper airfares and shorter flight times to East Africa.

The CEO of Uganda Airlines, Jenifer Bamuturaki, said that the launch of the direct flights is a “new chapter in East-West African air connectivity.” She added that the flights will help to “bridge the geographical and economic gap between travelers in West and East Africa.”

Samora Semakula, Quality Assurance Manager at the Uganda Tourism Board, said that the direct flights will help to boost tourism between the two countries. He noted that Uganda is a popular destination for tourists from Nigeria, and the direct flights will make it easier and more convenient for them to travel to Uganda.
