July 18, 2023 – President Cyril Ramaphosa will deliver a keynote address and oversee the unveiling of two statues honoring the late President Nelson Mandela at the national commemoration of the United Nations-endorsed Nelson Mandela International Day.
The first statue, paying tribute to the Father of the Nation, will be revealed at the Bhunga Building in Mthatha. Following this, President Ramaphosa will address the audience before presiding over the second unveiling at the Youth and Heritage Centre in Qunu, Eastern Cape.
These statues symbolize Nelson Mandela’s profound influence on South Africa and the world, celebrating his 67-year struggle against apartheid and racism.
Since the establishment of Nelson Mandela International Day by the United Nations in 2009, the Nelson Mandela Museum has been observing this global event as an opportunity to promote President Mandela’s values and uphold his legacy. The museum aims to make a positive difference in the lives of those in need, and this day serves as a significant platform for achieving that goal.
