Lusaka – President Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia confirmed receiving South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ronald Ozzy Lamola, who delivered a message of condolence from President Cyril Ramaphosa and the people of South Africa following the passing of Zambia’s sixth Republican President, Edgar Chagwa Lungu.
During the meeting, the two officials discussed the burial arrangements of the late leader. President Hichilema said Zambia had taken a firm position that former President Lungu would be laid to rest in his homeland.
He extended thanks to the South African government for the support given to Lungu during his illness and offered an apology to the South African National Defence Force for unexpected challenges related to the repatriation of Lungu’s remains on Wednesday, 18 June 2025.
