MBABANE, Eswatini — April 22, 2025 | Taiwan’s Foreign Minister Dr. Lin Chia-lung arrived in Eswatini on Monday as a special envoy of President Lai Ching-te to mark the 57th birthday celebration of King Mswati III.

The visit reflects the enduring diplomatic ties between the Kingdom of Eswatini and the Republic of China (Taiwan), one of the few remaining formal alliances Taiwan maintains in Africa.

Dr. Lin received a warm reception at King Mswati III International Airport, where Eswatini’s Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Hon. Pholile Shakantu, led the welcome alongside a cheering group of Taiwanese nationals living in the kingdom.

Later that evening, the visiting diplomat hosted a banquet in honor of Taiwanese citizens residing in Eswatini and across Southern Africa. During the event, Dr. Lin commended their commitment to Taiwan’s presence and representation in the region, thanking them for their ongoing contributions in strengthening the island’s visibility both on the continent and globally.
