On March 17, Zambia’s Vice President Mutale Nalumango joined a ceremony at the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) to receive a donation of flood relief items from the Zambia Chinese Association. The event also saw the presence of Mr. Wang Sheng, Chargé d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Zambia, Mr. Zhang Jian, Chairman of the Zambia Chinese Association, and Hon. Sheal Mulyata, Minister of Lusaka Province.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Wang conveyed China’s ongoing support for Zambia, particularly in light of the recent floods that affected many regions of the country. He highlighted that the Chinese community, in response to the disaster, had raised over 1.2 million Kwacha in both cash and supplies, demonstrating China’s commitment to fostering a “community with a shared future for mankind.” Mr. Wang assured that China would continue to offer assistance to Zambia in various ways, marking a new chapter in the bilateral relationship.
In her remarks, Vice President Nalumango expressed her deep appreciation for the donation, emphasizing its importance to the victims’ resettlement and the region’s reconstruction efforts. She acknowledged the long-standing partnership between Zambia and China, noting the consistent support the country has received from the Chinese government and its communities, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic and the cholera outbreak. Nalumango praised the Chinese community in Zambia for their continuous efforts to assist the Zambian people, reinforcing the enduring bond between the two nations.

Mr. Zhang Jian, Chairman of the Zambia Chinese Association, reiterated the commitment of the Chinese community in Zambia to contribute to public welfare. He pledged continued support to help Zambia overcome the challenges posed by the recent floods.
Following the speeches, a handover ceremony took place, during which the Chinese community presented relief materials, including mealie meal, cooking oil, and blankets. Since the start of 2025, Zambia has faced severe flooding, particularly in Lusaka, where multiple floods have caused extensive damage. The Chinese Embassy, in response to the disaster, swiftly launched an initiative to gather relief supplies as part of the ongoing efforts to assist affected communities.
