Zambia’s Minister of Infrastructure, Housing, and Urban Development, Hon. Charles Milupi, met with World Bank Executive Director Dr. Zarau Wendeline Kibwe in Washington, D.C. today to discuss key areas of infrastructure, energy, and trade development.
During the meeting, Milupi urged the World Bank to increase its support for Zambia’s energy and agriculture sectors to expand the country’s energy mix and boost food production. He also called for sustained funding in climate adaptation projects, particularly in infrastructure rehabilitation, energy diversification, and sustainable agriculture.
Milupi emphasized Zambia’s commitment to leveraging its land-linked advantage by investing in regional trade corridors to drive economic growth and regional integration. He pointed out that the Improved Rural Connectivity Project (IRCP) and the Transport Corridors for Economic Resilience (TRACER) project are crucial for job creation, enhancing agricultural production, and strengthening trade routes.
Dr. Kibwe commended Zambia’s development efforts and expressed confidence in the country’s capacity to implement and strengthen key projects. She reassured Milupi that the World Bank remains committed to supporting Zambia’s vision for economic growth, job creation, and poverty reduction.
