Order of Malta’s Ambassador Presents Credentials to King Letsie III

The Ambassador of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta to Lesotho, Michael P. Murphy, has officially presented his Letters of Credence to His Majesty King Letsie III. The ceremony took place at the Royal Palace in Maseru on Thursday, March 13, 2025.

Ambassador Murphy, who is based in Pretoria, South Africa, will represent the Order in Lesotho, strengthening diplomatic ties between the two entities. Lesotho and the Order of Malta established formal diplomatic relations on December 7, 2021, founded on mutual respect for human rights, the rule of law, and non-interference in domestic affairs.

Both Lesotho and the Order of Malta are members of several international organizations, including the United Nations (UN), the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the World Food Programme (WFP), and the World Health Organization (WHO).
