Kaduna is set to become the second city in Nigeria to introduce a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, following an investment of €110 million from the Agence Française de Développement (AFD). The initiative, unveiled on Tuesday, March 11, aims to modernize urban transport in the state and provide a sustainable, cost-effective mobility solution for residents.

The Kaduna State Transport Regulatory Authority (KADSTRA), in collaboration with AFD, presented plans for the Kaduna BRT (KBRT) project during an event attended by the Governor of Kaduna State and the French Ambassador to Nigeria. The new system is expected to transform urban mobility, reduce congestion, and improve the daily commute for thousands of people in the region.

The French government has played an active role in urban transport development in Nigeria, positioning the sector as a key area of cooperation between the two nations. France’s extensive experience in integrated transport solutions has led to partnerships involving both French and European stakeholders, working alongside local firms to enhance infrastructure, supply rolling stock, and optimize operations.
