Zambia has further strengthened its global diplomatic presence with the appointment of Her Excellency Ms. Eunice M. Tembo Luambia as the Focal Point for Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and Least Developed Countries (LDCs) at the United Nations Human Rights Council. The announcement was made on 28 February 2025 by His Excellency Mr. Jürg Lauber, President of the Human Rights Council, alongside other significant appointments aimed at improving representation and inclusivity within the UN system.
In this new role, Zambia will be at the forefront of advocating for the world’s most vulnerable nations, focusing on policies that promote resilience and sustainable growth for developing countries. Ms. Luambia’s appointment allows Zambia to work closely with other countries, international organizations, and key stakeholders to ensure the interests of SIDS and LDCs are better represented.
This appointment reflects Zambia’s ongoing commitment to global equity, with a special focus on addressing climate vulnerabilities, economic disparities, and human rights challenges faced by these nations.
