Tripoli, Libya – Somalia and Libya have signed four agreements aimed at boosting bilateral cooperation during Somali President Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud’s official visit to the Libyan capital on February 24, 2025. The agreements cover a range of areas, including diplomatic relations, urban development, and political alignment.
The key agreements include a mutual waiver of visa requirements for diplomatic passport holders, the creation of a joint ministerial committee, and a memorandum of understanding between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of both countries. A separate cooperation agreement was signed between the municipalities of Mogadishu and Tripoli to promote collaboration in local governance and urban development.
Somali Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Maalem Faqi Ahmed, and Libyan Minister Taher Salem Al-Baour played central roles in finalizing the agreements. The discussions also included the establishment of a high-level joint committee to review previous agreements and explore investment opportunities.
