Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa visited the Passport Office Headquarters at Ridge and the Accra Regional Passport Application Center (Accra PAC) on February 19, 2025, as part of efforts to improve passport services.
During the tour, he inspected the facilities and received a briefing on passport processing, including new chip-embedded passport technology. He interacted with staff and conveyed President John Dramani Mahama’s appreciation for their service.
Ablakwa announced plans for a three-shift system to clear the backlog of applications and confirmed an increase in staff numbers. He also revealed upcoming upgrades to handle rising demand.
The minister detailed plans to expand office facilities, enhance security, and improve staff transportation. The government is also exploring subsidies to reduce passport costs, while premium services will be introduced for faster processing at a higher fee.
He noted that passport processing time had already been reduced to four weeks and assured efforts were underway to cut it further to one week.
