Brussels played host to a discussion on empowering women and young entrepreneurs in agriculture as representatives from the GIZ projects MOVE-ComCashew and the Agribusiness Facility for Africa (ABF) took part in a high-level dialogue. The event, held from February 13 to 14, 2025, was organized by the Organisation of African, Caribbean, and Pacific States (OACPS) in collaboration with the European Union, focusing on private sector development and economic resilience.
The gathering reviewed the Business ACP Facility’s impact since 2018, bringing together experts, policymakers, and stakeholders to evaluate progress and explore strategies for strengthening agricultural value chains. A key discussion revolved around “Supporting Women and Young Entrepreneurship,” with an emphasis on access to finance, markets, and technical support for marginalized groups in agribusiness.
Bastian Domke, Director of Private Sector Development at GIZ/MOVE, shared insights on the Matching Grant Facility, which has helped women and youth-led businesses access financing. He detailed how the initiative has contributed to economic growth by providing financial and market linkages.
Panelists also addressed the role of women and young entrepreneurs in advancing climate-resilient agriculture. Discussions focused on the need for policies that support their participation in agricultural development across the OACPS regions.
