Senior officials from Embraer, the Brazilian aerospace company, met with representatives of the South African Embassy in Brazil on February 13, 2025, to discuss potential partnerships in commercial and military aviation. The talks focused on Embraer’s engagement with South African Airways (SAA) and the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) as both look to expand and upgrade their fleets.
The meeting took place at the Official Residence of the South African Ambassador and was attended by Ambassador Vusi Mavimbela, South African Defence Attaché Admiral Philiswa Mboyise, and her Deputy, Lt. Col. Gaven Du Preez. Embraer, the world’s third-largest aircraft manufacturer after Boeing and Airbus, has over 70 aircraft operating in Southern Africa, mainly through Airlink.
SAA and SANDF are considering new aircraft acquisitions to replace ageing fleets. Embraer, with its expertise in civil and military aviation, is seeking to strengthen its role in South Africa’s aviation sector.
