Eswatini’s Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Trade has launched a 5-day workshop on Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Measures for EU-SADC Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) States.
The workshop, which follows a 2022 assessment by a consultant commissioned by the SADC Secretariat, aims to address the SPS challenges identified in the report. It seeks to improve compliance with SPS standards to boost intra-regional trade, especially between SADC EPA states and the EU. Strengthening food control systems will help Eswatini unlock export opportunities in the EU and other markets.
Key goals of the workshop include building capacity on food safety principles, raising awareness on sanitary requirements, and identifying actions to implement SPS Measures in line with the EU-SADC EPA agreement. Lungile Dlamini, Director of International Trade, expressed gratitude to the EU for its ongoing technical support, as well as to the SADC Secretariat and all participants involved in organizing the event.
