Maseru, Lesotho – The British High Commission in Lesotho reports that H.E. Harry MacDonald met with the Honourable Minister Shelile to discuss ways to enhance trade between the UK and Lesotho, particularly through the Developing Countries Trade Scheme (DCTS).
The DCTS is recognized as one of the most generous trade preference schemes globally, offering duty-free and quota-free access to the UK market for thousands of products from developing countries. This scheme is estimated to reduce import costs by £770 million annually.
As a Least Developed Country (LDC), Lesotho can leverage the Comprehensive Preference tier of the DCTS and/or benefits under the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) to increase its exports to the UK.
The meeting between the British High Commissioner and the Lesotho Minister aimed to explore avenues for maximizing Lesotho’s utilization of the DCTS and identify potential areas for trade growth between the two countries.
