Cairo, January 23, 2025 – Somalia and Egypt have significantly strengthened their bilateral relations with the signing of two key agreements in Cairo today. The agreements, covering diplomatic training and visa waivers for diplomatic passport holders, were signed by Somali Foreign Minister Ahmed Ma’alam Faqi Ahmed and his Egyptian counterpart, Dr. Badr Abdel-Atty.
The visa waiver agreement allows citizens of both countries holding valid diplomatic passports to enter and stay in each other’s territories for up to 90 days without requiring prior visas. This move is expected to facilitate travel and enhance people-to-people exchanges between the two nations.
The signing ceremony was attended by Somali President Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, underscoring the high-level commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.
These agreements aim to deepen cooperation between the two countries across various sectors, including economics, politics, security, and culture.
