The Music In Africa Foundation (MIAF) is seeking writers and experts to contribute articles on African traditional instruments. The selected writers will produce short articles focused on the history, cultural significance, and legacy of instruments such as the mbira, marimba, and others. These articles will be featured on the Music In Africa website and in a catalogue for MIAF’s upcoming exhibition at the University of Johannesburg in February.
The exhibition, which is part of MIAF’s Instrument Building and Repair (IBR) project, aims to showcase the diversity of African traditional instruments and promote their preservation. The catalogue will combine expert insights and visuals, offering an engaging resource for attendees.
Writers are asked to submit articles between 900 and 1,200 words, strictly focused on traditional African instruments or related subjects, such as instrument-making communities. The deadline for submissions is February 5, 2025.
Interested candidates must provide a CV with relevant experience, writing samples, and a proposed topic for the article. The submission deadline for applications is January 25, 2025.
