Kampala, Uganda – Eswatini’s Prime Minister, Russell Mmiso Dlamini, met with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni at Speke Resort in Kampala during the Extraordinary Summit of African Union Heads of State and Government on the Post-Malabo Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Program (CAADP).
The meeting covered a range of issues, including cultural ties, economic opportunities, and agricultural development. Dlamini noted President Museveni’s keen interest in Swati culture and the linguistic similarities between the Swati language and his own.
The two leaders discussed the rise of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in Africa, linking the health crisis to unhealthy eating habits. They shared concerns about the need to address these challenges through better agricultural and health policies.
Dlamini also commended Museveni’s remarks at the summit, where the Ugandan leader criticized Africa’s reliance on exporting raw materials without value addition. Museveni’s speech highlighted the need for the continent to retain more economic value by processing its resources locally.
Museveni expressed interest in Eswatini’s sugar industry and its recent efforts in small-scale coffee production. The leaders exchanged ideas on agricultural innovation and the potential for economic transformation across the continent.
