Somalia and Egypt have taken steps to further solidify their partnership, with a focus on enhancing regional stability and security. Somali Foreign Minister Ambassador Ahmed Moallim Fiqi met with Egypt’s Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdel Atty on January 12, 2025, to discuss strengthening their bilateral ties.
The ministers addressed several key areas of cooperation, including the activation of the African Union’s AUSSOM mission and supporting Somalia’s National Army in its fight against terrorism. Both officials praised the ongoing visit of Somalia’s Minister of Defense to Cairo, which marks an important step toward greater collaboration between the two nations.
Dr. Abdel Atty reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to Somalia’s unity and stability, highlighting their joint efforts to deepen bilateral relations and provide technical support. The meeting also saw an agreement to work closely through the Joint Ministerial Committee and implement agreements made during the 2024 Egypt-Somalia-Eritrea summit to promote security in the Horn of Africa and Red Sea region.
