Port Shepstone, South Africa – Two Nigerian nationals were arrested in Port Shepstone, KwaZulu-Natal, after being found with drugs and over R38,000 in cash.

Chima Ihekwoaba, 44, and Uchechukwu Mbaogu, 26, were taken into custody by the Hawks, South Africa’s Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, following a coordinated operation with various law enforcement teams, including Crime Intelligence, Counter Narcotics, and the Port Shepstone K9 unit.

The arrest came after a series of undercover operations focused on a group of drug dealers in the Park Rynie area near Scottburgh. The Hawks seized a range of drugs, including rock cocaine, CAT, and crystal meth, with an estimated street value of R8,700. Additionally, police confiscated R38,450 in cash, suspected to be proceeds from criminal activity. The seized funds will be handled by the Asset Forfeiture Investigation for further action.

Ihekwoaba and Mbaogu appeared in the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court on Friday, where they were remanded in custody. Their case has been postponed until December 30, 2024.
