Zambia and Morocco have moved to strengthen bilateral relations at the inaugural session of the Joint Permanent Commission of Cooperation (JPCC) held in Laayoune, Morocco, on December 13, 2024. The discussions focused on collaboration in education, justice, mining, trade, and tourism.

Zambia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Mulambo Haimbe, led the delegation, while Morocco was represented by Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita. The session resulted in the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and a joint communique affirming their commitment to strengthening economic partnerships.

Hon. Haimbe pointed to the strong historical and cultural ties between Zambia and Morocco, acknowledging their shared membership in regional and international organizations. He said the meeting provided an opportunity to review existing agreements, including the Morocco-Zambia Roadmap of Cooperation for 2023-2025, and explore new avenues of cooperation to address global challenges.

The minister stressed the importance of peace and security in facilitating economic growth and creating a conducive environment for trade and investment. He reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment to fostering business opportunities between the two nations.
