Lusaka, Zambia — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has announced that President Hakainde Hichilema will make an official visit to Angola on December 4, 2024, at the invitation of President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço.

President Hichilema will participate in the Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGII) Lobito Corridor Summit, organized by the Angolan government alongside the state visit of U.S. President Joseph R. Biden. The summit will focus on the development of the Lobito Corridor, a key infrastructure project aimed at boosting trade and regional connectivity in southern Africa.

The meeting is expected to include representatives from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Tanzania. Discussions will assess progress on the Lobito Trans-Africa Corridor and the partnership within the Lobito Corridor Consortium. This project provides a vital alternative transport route to the sea, aimed at increasing trade, investment, and employment opportunities.

Zambia and Angola maintain strong bilateral relations and collaborate on regional initiatives. Along with the DRC and Tanzania, the two nations are working to advance the Lobito Corridor to enhance regional integration and economic growth.
