The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) is hosting a two-day Cyber Security Symposium for National Security Agencies in Lilongwe, focusing on the growing threats posed by emerging technologies. The event, being held in partnership with the Malawi Defence Force, the National Defence College (NDC), and the Malawi Computer Emergency Response Team (MWCERT), brings together key stakeholders to discuss solutions to enhance cybersecurity in the country.
Mr. Odala Menyani, a MACRA Board Director, described the symposium as an important platform for knowledge sharing and collaboration. He emphasized that as technology increasingly influences every aspect of life—from education to business to governance—cybersecurity has become a crucial concern. “Protecting our digital spaces is essential for the success of our nation,” Menyani stated.
MACRA’s Director General, Mr. Daud Suleman, highlighted the Authority’s commitment to supporting a secure digital environment in Malawi. He pointed to the introduction of the Electronic Transactions and Cyber Security laws in 2016, which were designed to address the challenges posed by digital advancements.
The symposium, which carries the theme “Technology, Security, and Development: Problems and Prospects,” aims to foster discussion on best practices and innovative solutions for tackling cybersecurity issues. MWCERT, a division of MACRA, plays a key role in coordinating cybersecurity efforts within Malawi and internationally.
