MINNA, Niger State – Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, yesterday inaugurated an 11-member Technical Committee to oversee the smooth transition of Allawa Game Reserve to a National Park.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the State Government House, followed a briefing by the Conservator-General of the Nigeria National Park Service (NPS), Dr. Ibrahim Musa Goni. Dr. Goni highlighted the collaborative efforts of the Federal Government and Niger State in elevating Allawa Game Reserve to a National Park status, one of ten new national parks recently established nationwide.
Governor Bago tasked the committee, chaired by Sharif Labaran Musa of the State Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, to ensure a seamless hand-over process. Other members of the committee include representatives from various state ministries, traditional leaders, and NPS officials.
Immediately following the inauguration, the committee convened its inaugural meeting at the State Ministry of Environment. The meeting focused on developing a comprehensive plan for the hand-over process, which includes engaging with key stakeholders in the area to secure their support and blessings.
The NPS, a federal agency responsible for managing and conserving Nigeria’s wildlife and wild places, is overseeing the transition of Allawa Game Reserve to a National Park.
