Abuja, Nigeria – The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission has invested in the future of West Africa’s youth by awarding a $1.03 million grant to 25 regional centers focused on agricultural innovation, agronomic research, and vocational training in agroecology and organic agriculture.
The initiative aims to equip 3,142 young people with practical skills and knowledge in agroforestry, livestock, and fisheries. By combining theoretical learning with hands-on experience, the program seeks to foster innovation and sustainable agricultural practices.

A regional workshop held in Abuja brought together center directors and trained participants to review the outcomes of the training programs, identify challenges, and explore solutions. The event focused on aligning efforts with ECOWAS’ regional strategy for youth employment in agricultural value chains.
H.E. Massandjé Touré-Litsé, Commissioner for Economic Affairs and Agriculture at the ECOWAS Commission, emphasized the importance of investing in young people to drive sustainable growth and food security in the region. She highlighted the potential of the agricultural sector to create jobs, improve livelihoods, and strengthen local economies.

The workshop provided a platform for participants to share experiences, discuss best practices, and develop strategies for future collaboration.
