Chakwera Celebrates Golf Tournament Fundraising Success

President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi has thanked sponsors of the 2024 Presidential Charity Golf Tournament for helping the event reach its fundraising goal of 600 million kwacha. His remarks were made during the tournament’s closing ceremony at Country Club Limbe in Blantyre.

Chakwera commended the organizing committee and the Country Club Limbe staff for creating a welcoming atmosphere throughout the tournament. He stressed the need to support those affected by Cyclone Freddy and El Niño, calling this aid crucial for the nation’s development.

The President also highlighted the importance of investing in university students struggling with tuition and living expenses. He urged the community and corporate sector to engage in philanthropy and show patriotism.

Vizenge Kumwenda, Chairperson of the Presidential Charity Golf Initiative Committee, praised Chakwera for his participation and support. He noted the tournament’s vital role in assisting cyclone survivors and underprivileged students, emphasizing the effective coordination that ensured funds would be used appropriately.

Gift Kawamba, President of the Golf Union of Malawi and Chairperson of the 2024 Golf Organising Committee, pointed out the need to nurture young golfing talent, suggesting that this focus will help develop the sport in Malawi.

Boyd Luwe, Chairperson of the Fundraising Sub-Committee, announced the successful achievement of the 600 million kwacha target, calling it a significant milestone. He acknowledged the efforts of the committee members in mobilizing funds and expressed gratitude to sponsors for their continued support.
