New York, September 29, 2024 – Malawi’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Mulambo Haimbe, SC, M.P, met with his Latvian counterpart, Her Excellency Ms. Braže Baiba, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
During the meeting, Minister Haimbe highlighted the strong and friendly relationship between Malawi and Latvia, emphasizing the ongoing collaboration in areas such as infrastructure development. He stressed the importance of knowledge sharing in key sectors to benefit both countries.
Minister Haimbe also underscored the need for global cooperation to address the challenges faced by developing nations, particularly in accessing affordable financing. He called for greater efforts to bridge the digital divide, especially for women and girls, to improve service delivery.
Ms. Baiba expressed Latvia’s interest in strengthening its ties with Malawi and suggested appointing an Honorary Consul to enhance bilateral relations. She also acknowledged the importance of addressing the digital gap.
Minister Haimbe extended an invitation to his Latvian counterpart to visit Malawi to further solidify the existing bilateral relationship.
