MOGADISHU, Somalia – A series of violent attacks rocked Somalia on Saturday, resulting in the deaths of at least six people and injuring several others. The bombings occurred in both the capital city, Mogadishu, and the town of Jowhar in the Middle Shabelle region.
The most significant incident took place in Mogadishu near the National Theatre, where a car bomb detonated, killing five people and injuring seven. The explosion occurred just over a kilometer away from the presidential palace. A police officer at the scene confirmed the casualties but requested anonymity due to lack of authorization to speak to the media.
In Jowhar, a separate bombing targeted a livestock market, killing one person and injuring three civilians. The local police commander, Bashir Hassan, announced the casualties during a press conference.
The responsibility for these attacks has not yet been claimed, but the militant group al-Shabaab is a likely suspect. The group has a long history of carrying out bombings and other acts of violence in Somalia, targeting both civilians and government officials.
