Ajuri Ngelale, spokesperson to President Bola Tinubu, has resigned from his position due to a worsening medical situation. Ngelale made the announcement on Saturday through a personal statement posted on his verified Facebook page.
In the statement, he explained that the decision was based on a “vexatious medical situation” affecting his immediate family, which had worsened in recent days. As a result, he is stepping down to focus on dealing with the matter.
His resignation also affects other roles he held, including his position as Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action and Chairman of the Presidential Steering Committee on Project Evergreen.
“On Friday, I submitted a memo to the Chief of Staff to the President informing my office that I am proceeding on an indefinite leave of absence to frontally deal with medical matters presently affecting my immediate, nuclear family,” Ngelale stated.
He asked for privacy during this period, expressing hope for a possible return when circumstances allow.
Ngelale’s resignation was announced while President Tinubu was traveling abroad, having recently left China for the United Kingdom after attending the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) summit in Beijing.
