Tokyo, Japan – August 24, 2024 – Japan’s Foreign Minister, Yoko Kamikawa, met with her Mauritanian counterpart, Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, to discuss bilateral relations and cooperation in the Sahel region.
Minister Kamikawa expressed gratitude for Mauritania’s contributions to regional peace and stability and highlighted the importance of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) as a platform for cooperation between Japan and Africa.
Minister Merzoug emphasized Japan’s significance as a partner for Mauritania and expressed his commitment to working towards the success of TICAD 9.
The two ministers agreed to further enhance bilateral relations in various areas, including fisheries and agriculture. They also confirmed their intention to continue developing Japan-Mauritania ties ahead of the upcoming TICAD conference.
