Tokyo, Japan – August 24, 2024 – Japan’s Foreign Minister, Yoko Kamikawa, met with her Zambian counterpart, Situmbeko Musokotwane, to discuss bilateral relations and economic cooperation.
Minister Kamikawa commemorated the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Zambia, highlighting the countries’ shared values and principles. She announced Japan’s decision to provide an emergency grant aid of USD 2 million to address Zambia’s food insecurity crisis.
Minister Musokotwane expressed gratitude for Japan’s support and outlined the challenges faced by Zambia in ensuring food security.
Japan and Zambia also discussed ways to strengthen economic cooperation, particularly in the development of key mineral resources. Minister Kamikawa encouraged increased Japanese investment in Zambia, while Minister Musokotwane expressed his expectations for creating added value through economic partnerships.
The two ministers agreed to further deepen bilateral relations and explore opportunities for cooperation ahead of the upcoming TICAD 9 conference.
