Luanda – The foreign ministers of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda are set to meet in Angola’s capital on Monday to discuss a peace proposal aimed at ending the long-standing conflict in eastern DRC.
The meeting marks the third round of talks mediated by Angola since the two nations agreed to a ceasefire on August 4th. The truce, brokered by Angolan President João Lourenço, followed earlier negotiations in Luanda.
The focus of the upcoming talks will be on a peace proposal presented by President Lourenço to both Rwandan President Paul Kagame and DRC President Félix Tshisekedi. The Angolan leader handed the proposal to Kagame in Kigali earlier this month and discussed it with Tshisekedi in Kinshasa.
According to a statement from the Angolan presidency, the meeting aims to build a shared understanding of the peace proposal and work towards a negotiated end to the conflict in eastern DRC.
