Copenhagen, Denmark – A young South African leader, Dimpho Lekgeu, has returned from a life-changing experience in Denmark, where she gained invaluable insights into the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As a member of the Danish Embassy’s Youth Advisory Panel, Lekgeu participated in the ‘Empowering Youth to Influence SDG Implementation’ program.
Lekgeu’s journey included a visit to UN City, where she delved into communication and advocacy strategies. She also interacted with Danish youth activists, discovering striking parallels between the challenges faced by young people in both Denmark and South Africa.
A highlight of her trip was a visit to a Folk School, an educational institution renowned for its innovative approach to learning and community engagement. Lekgeu was particularly impressed by the school’s role in fostering global awareness among young people.
Reflecting on her experience, Lekgeu emphasized the importance of civic engagement, accessible government, and financial support for youth-led initiatives. She returned home with a renewed determination to amplify young people’s voices and contribute to sustainable development in South Africa.
