Khorixas, Namibia – President Dr. Nangolo Mbumba on Tuesday officially opened the Khorixas Vocational Training Centre (KVTC), a new facility aimed at equipping Namibian youth with practical skills for the job market.
The center, located in the Kunene Region, is a realization of a long-held dream for the community, which had been advocating for economic upliftment after several government ministries relocated to the regional capital, Opuwo. The late Dr. Nickey Iyambo, former Vice President, is credited with championing the project after hearing the community’s plea during a visit to the area.
The KVTC is part of the government’s broader plan to establish vocational training centers in all 14 regions of Namibia, in line with its vision to transform the country into a knowledge-based economy. The facility will offer programs in bricklaying, carpentry, plumbing, and air conditioning, tailored to meet the needs of the local industry.
President Mbumba emphasized the government’s commitment to providing quality vocational training that aligns with industry demands. He urged private institutions to partner with the government to offer internships and job placements to KVTC graduates.
The opening of the center comes at a crucial time as Namibia is experiencing an economic boom due to emerging sectors like green hydrogen and oil and gas. The President expressed optimism that the KVTC will produce skilled workers to contribute to the country’s development.
The President called on the youth of Kunene to take advantage of the opportunity to acquire skills that will enhance their employability and contribute to the region’s growth.
