N’Djamena, Chad – The Pan-African Parliament has pledged its commitment to advancing women’s and girls’ rights and empowerment through education, culminating in a high-level roundtable held in N’Djamena, Chad, to mark Pan African Women’s Day.
The gathering, held from July 31 to August 1, 2024, in collaboration with Chad’s National Transition Council, aimed to celebrate the achievements of African women while identifying strategies to enhance access to quality education for all, especially women and girls.
Aligned with the African Union’s 2024 theme, “Educating an Africa fit for the 21st century,” the parliament sought to address the persistent challenges hindering women’s participation in formal education.

Pan-African Parliament President, Chief Fortune Charumbira, reiterated the institution’s dedication to collaborating with stakeholders to champion women’s causes. The event also featured addresses from Chad’s National Assembly and other high-level officials.
Following extensive deliberations, participants outlined key recommendations, including reforming education systems to incorporate emerging technologies, popularizing the AU’s education strategy, and establishing literacy centers for women in rural areas.
Additionally, measures to support adolescent mothers’ education, provision of hygiene kits for girls, and development of curriculum aligned with local needs were highlighted.
The parliament’s recent adoption of a Draft Model Law on Gender Equality and Equity further underscores its commitment to bridging gender disparities.
